The FishHants Coarse Diary

Friday/Saturday 11th/12th July 2008

Fished at Greenridge farm near Romsey with Mike from about 7PM Friday to 10.30AM Saturday, for £12 each. lake is quite small but very well maintained. Fish up to 28lb and like Lake, are in great shape. Boilies are banned, but we were told that hard baits were not so effective anyway. We both fished luncheon meat on hair rigs all the time, on the two swims in the bay by the Island and bridge, with our baits just on the island banks and by the bridge. I caught a 2lb common and two 6lb ghost carp, Mike catching a good sized bream and a small common, all evenly spaced throughout our time there. Luncheon meat is supposedly lethal after sunset. See gallery for pictures and reviews for my first time at this lake.

Saturday/Sunday 26th/27th August 2006

Fished at Timsbury with Mike from 7.45 Saturday till 12 AM Sunday. Both had plenty of fish, the biggest went to mike at 7.5 LB. For ledgering during the night, both sweetcorn and bread moulded round hook (and hair!!0 were very effective. Boilies and luncheon meat are banned. Red Leiscester produced no fish for Mike (I didnt try it). In the early evening and morning, floating bread off the surface provided LOTS of fish and lots of fun - well worth the £10 for the night. We were never going to catch a big'un but lots of fish that fight as well as any pound for pound.

Friday/Saturday 25th/26th August 2006

Fished at Broadlands with Mike from 7PM Friday till 2PM Saturday. We both blanked, fishing in swim 61, both fishing our usual Petersfield boilies. After our fish, we had a walk round the lake (which, is huge!) and found a lot of better swims with lilies and access to the Island etc. We MUST do this next time we go! Guy in shop also recommended Pineapples and Maples (boilies) for the lakes - very annoying that we've got both of them just didnt think to fish them! Anyway, Lake was very nice and was a nice change to Petersfield - great to fish without needing to wade out to cast and wear wellies all the time on the sand!

Monday 21st August 2006

Fished Petersfield on my own from 7:15 to 10:15, had a twenty on our most productive boilie at 8:30. An absolute screaming run, and the fish was VERY broad across the shoulders, a great fish and a great start. Fought very well too. No more beeps after that but still a great session.

Wednesday/Thursday 16th/17th August 2006

Fished Petersfield overnight with mike in usual swim from 7PM to 9AM, we both blanked. I fished snowmans of each type of boilie. New bedchair was awesome.

Wednesday/Thursday 26th/27th July 2006

Fished a night at Petersfield with Mike. I blanked fishing two of the new bait. Mike on the other hand, caught an excellent 19lber the newest bait, and also a 14lber on same bait (19 at 11:30PM, 14 at 2AM) then had another 14 about 6AM on pop-up of first good bait we found. Good lad.

Tuesday/Wednesday 25th/26th July 2006

Fished Petersfield with Mike. I fished from 7PM to 1AM, and started with one rod of a certain (soon to be successful) flavour of boilie, and one of a different bait, both in areas heavily baited with the respective baits. At 10.15 I had a good run on the boilie rod and landed a beautiful 16lb common, I was ecstatic again. At 11.30 Mike had a 15lb common on the same bait as mine, another good fish. Mike fished on when I left (until about 9.30 AM) and had 2 more commons, at 15lb and 20lb, an awesome result so we're both pleased as punch. What a memorable session, and its awesome to have the Heath producing big carp for us. Still plenty of bigger ones to be caught though :)

Sunday/Monday 23rd/24th July 2006

Fished Petersfield with Mike from 6.30PM Sunday to 6AM Monday. For first 3/4 of session fished one white chocolate boilie (in a well boilie baited area) and one pop-up shellfish boilie. (had a couple of beeps on white chocolate, but nothing great), and had nothing. Mike fished a pop-up shellfish and a techni spice. We both put LOADS of bait out, as we will do now in the future. I put out a bed of a certain bait (gotta keep my secrets now) and at 4AM I put one rod of a different bait out into the middle of the bed. At 4.30, this rod screamed off and I hooked into a TWENTY POUND common! An absolute beast. I was ecstatic - my first Heath carp, a new PB and my first 20. An truly awesome result.

Friday/Saturday 21st/22nd July 2006

Fished Petersfield with Mike from 6PM Friday to 7.30Am Saturday. Fished 1 rod of pop-up maple boilies on bed of hempseed, and one rod standard white chocolate in PVA bag of same. Had a bream at 8.10 on the white chocolate and that was it for either of us for rest of session. Fished pegs 10/11 as have done all this week. We have been recommended fish-based boilies now.

Thursday 20th July 2006

Fished at Petersfield with Mike from 6PM till 12.15 PM. I caught a 3lb bream on corn in a well baited area, the only fish of the evening. Have picked up LOTS of bait tips, so a night fish tomorrow.

Sunday/Monday 16/17th July 2006

Fished at Petersfield on two seperate occassions with Mike. On first session (from about 4-10 PM) we both caught nothing, both having one rod of corn for the bream and one rod of boilie for carp. About 8PM it starts to pick up on the water. The second session from 7-11:45 produced one bream each, at about 7:30 ( for me) and 10:00 (for Mike). Both came to sweetcorn on hair about 20m out in a well corn-baited area. No action apart from that. Nice for us to both get something out of there. Feeling confident with lots of sessions planned.

Thursday December 22nd 2005

Fished Timsbury Manor with Mike (back from uni) from 10.15 till 3:00, on a mainly sunny but cold day. Mike caught one1-2lb mirror on float fished corn. I caught one 4lb common on shellfish boilie, one1-2lb mirror on floating corn and the best fish of the trip, a 6lb mirror also on floating corn. Best float fishing found 0.5-1m away from bank, with 5ft from float to hook. Picked up from a slow morning about 1.30. £7 a day - Great!

Thursday 11th August 2005

Fished at Timsbury Manor carp lakes with Mike on a warm and sunny day, £7 each - boilies and luncheon meat banned (but we ignored this :s) Mike and I caught about 16 carp each. Mine came evenly distributed between floating bread, scopex boilie, luncheon meat haired, pellets on hair and scopex boilie in PVA bag of crushed scopexs. Best fish about 5lb. Mike's all came to similar methods, as well as corn and luncheon meat on float. A very successful day -Fish were in lovely condition, fought well and made excellent runs on the pod and bite alarms too!

Saturday and Sunday 30-31st July 2005

Fished the natural spring fed lake at East Creech camp site with Matt. On Saturday, we fished from 8-10AM and caught 3 carp. The first fish was also Matts first ever carp, and came on float fished luncheon meat, a nice 2lb common. The other 2 smaller carp (1 each, 0.5-0.75 lb) also fell to same method. On sunday we fished from 1-4.30PM and Matt caught 5 more carp all on float fished luncheon meat, the 5th maybe 2.5-2.75 lb, an excellent fish. I caught 2 carp on shellfish boilies in roughly baited areas, which seemed to do the trick. The 2nd was the best fish of the w'end at around 3lb. All of fish beautifully finned and fought very well. Lake full of fish, with floating bread flake also rather deadly.

Wednesday 15th June 2005

Fished Petersfield Lake with Mike from 2PM till 8PM. I fished one shellfish PVA bag and one shellfish single hook bait from swim 1, and Mike fished two techni spice single baits. Had no fish lots of signs of movement and a few bites.

Wednesday 2nd June 2005

Fished Petersfield Lake with Mike from 5Pm to 9:45PM. With Island swim taken we fished the bank a couple of swims back from Island. I fished shellfish sense appeal boilies in PVA bag of same, on both rods about 25-30m out. After maybe one hour I had what appeared to be a run, as my alarm went mad, the hanger shot up and the baitrunner was spooling line, but found nothing when I struck-probably a line bite. Mike, fishing pineapple pop-ups and pellets also caught nothing, and had no bites. Generally been fishing well, possibly swim 1 or adjacent next time.

7th April 2005

Fished Petersfield Lake with Mike from 6AM to 8PM. Day was mostly sunny but with showers. Fished the bream bank (swim 11) till 11:30 but on bailiffs advice moved to boards swim. Caught nothing but had positive bites in second part of day. Around 7PM fish started moving. Fishing off the Island has been producing the big carp recently, so is plan for next time. Fished tuti frutti boilies 15mm hair rig in PVA bag of either tutti frutti or trigga ice boilies, or fishmeal pelles. New rod, reel, line and pod were awesome!

Wednesday 1st September 2004

Went to Gold Valley Carp Lakes in Aldershot with Mike. Sunny most of day (although shade fished better). £15 a day. Bought bank stick and hooks from good tackle shop. After half an hour I caught my first carp ever - a 9lb mirror fully scaled on float fished luncheon meat. Then throughout day caught 3 more carp (5-6lb) on tutti frutti boilies in middle of lake. Towards end of day I caught a 7lb common on luncheon meat right underneath tree about 1ft into lake. Then made PVA bag of boilies and after half an hour or so caught an 11.5lb common (my first first double and PB!). Also caught 1 bream on luncheon meat, the same bait Mike used to catch 2 perch and 1 roach. Aside from this he caught about 10 lovely carp, mostly on luncheon meat, with about forur double figure fish, the biggest an excellent 14lb. The two trees and bushes that went onto the Lake were red hot in the evening - 5 of Mike's carp came from here. Amazing day, now 'hooked' on carp fishing!

Saturday Late October 2003

Fished from 7 till 12 at Petersfield Lake with Mike. Lake extremely shallow and very cold weather. Fished hair rig and tutti frutti boilie and caught nothing. New bite indicator worked well. Dont bother with this time of year/temperature next time.

Tuesday and Wednesday August 2003

Night fishing with Mike, 7PM Tuesday to 5PM Wednesday. Booked our night fishing from Andy Reed. I used a hair rig and 1 oz weight with a tecni-spice boilie. About 11PM Mike caught a 17lb common carp. However, neither of us had any more fish, just good fun.

Wednesday August 2003

Fished in Petersfield Lake. £2.50 a day (under 15s). Used ledgering tackle, initially with powerbait (unsurprisingly unsuccessful!) then used sweetcorn. I caught a 2-2.5lb bream, and Mike caught 3.

Sunday August 2003

Fished in lower cathedral lakes, Yosemite, California. Used ledgering tackle and powerbait. I caught 1 lovely brook trout 1-2lbs in weight which was returned to Lake.

Thursday August 2003

Fished in June Lake, Yosemite National Park, California. Used ledgering tackle and powerbait, we fished by a fallen down tree on the side opposite to town. All of this was recommended by Ron. I caught 3 rainbow trout, all 0.5-1 lb in weight, all eaten for dinner.
